If you are seeking housing support or wish to apply for the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP), you will first need to complete the application form to request social housing support in Galway.

Where to Apply:

• You can submit your application by post to the Housing Section of Galway City Council or in person at the Housing public counter in the City Council Offices.
• The counter is open from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday to Friday. If you arrive outside of these hours, you can leave your application in the designated post box.

Tips from Experience:

• Apply in Person. It is highly recommended to submit your application in person at the counter. Staff will check if your form is completed correctly and ensure that all required documents are included. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. If you send your application by post or leave it in the post box and it is incomplete, it will be returned with requests for additional information, causing delays.
• Seek Institutional or Charitable Support. Look for an institution or charity that can support your application. For example, if you have a social worker assigned to your case through an organization such as the Disability Network, Tusla, or similar, ask if they can follow up on your case with Galway City Council. While this does not guarantee faster support, it ensures your application will be actively monitored and considered according to your needs.
• Prepare for a Lengthy Process. This application is exceptionally detailed, possibly the most extensive I may have encountered.
• Documentary Evidence. You will need to provide documentary evidence in English. Examples include: Translated birth certificates for all household members; Documents related to marriage, divorce, etc., if applicable; A completed tax refund and liability statement for the year preceding your application.
